Liechtenstein’s National Day is on August 15th this year. It is the biggest event this small country has each year. Although Liechtenstein is Europe’s smallest country, it knows how to put on a big party. Starting it all is an open-air mass out beside the royal castle, which is on a hillside above Vaduz, the capital. This will be followed by a garden party in the Prince’s castle. Every one is invited, including tourists. There will be food and drink for everyone, and the royal family will be mingling with all, for a chance to be met.
The party lasts all day long, and finishes with fireworks, using the castle as a grand backdrop, and at the end, all lit up in flames on the castle wall you can see the words, “For God, Prince, and Fatherland. How patriotic is that?
Ending at 2 AM, there are free bus rides home for everyone.
