In North Carolina, USA, just west of Winston-Salem is a large park, usually used for golfing, and horse-back riding. It borders the Yadkin River, and is a popular place all year round, but never so much so as the month of December. That month, the park creates the largest and most spectacular light shows in the SouthEast USA. With nearly a million lights, there just is nothing quite like it. You drive your car through the park, and see snowflakes falling from the sky (hooked up into the trees, of course) with reindeer, and elves, and angels, and gigantic poinsettias over 40 feet tall.
There is a tunnel of lights to go through, horses jumping endlessly over fences, a huge fire engine (lights covering a real one), and in the pond, you can find not only ships, but sea horses, and mermaids, and jumping frogs.
Enchantment is everywhere, and if you’d like to make your visit last, you can stop by the bonfire and roast a few marshmallow, or get some hot chocolate. The craft shop there is open, and hosts fine holiday crafts from over 75 local craftsmen. You can even catch a hayride.
If you are in central North Carolina this season, this is one of the places you really should not miss. I’ve been there dozens of times, and it never fails to amaze.
